Red Queen | Book Review

Title: Red Queen
Series: (Red Queen Trilogy #1)
Author: Victoria Aveyard
Genre: Young Adult, Dystopia, Fnatasy
Publication Date: February 10th 2015
Format: ebook

Graceling meets The Selection in debut novelist Victoria Aveyard's sweeping tale of seventeen-year-old Mare, a common girl whose once-latent magical power draws her into the dangerous intrigue of the king's palace. Will her power save her or condemn her?

Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood--those with common, Red blood serve the Silver- blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard--a growing Red rebellion--even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

Let's just go back to the synopsis a little bit:

"Graceling meets The Selection in debut novelist Victoria Aveyard's sweeping tale of ..."

I was sold at Graceling to be honest, since Graceling is one of my favorite books. But when I saw The Selection, I just thought why would anyone want to compare their fantasy book to the Selection? And I just let it go because I've been seeing a lot of books being compared to the selection recently and just brushed it off as bad marketing.

It was not.

When I completed half of this book I realized how accurate that comparing was. And I'm not talking about Graceling.

This book was too similar to other stories, it was basically multiple books mashed in one. But The Selection was the biggest part and I just could not handle how cliche some things were! It was too predictable and Mare was very annoying.

For fuck's sake! Her name is Mare! EVEN THE NAME IS LIKE THE SELECTION I CANNOT.

And it wasn't even hyped when I started reading it, which is really frustrating.

I know some people feel the same way about this book, but could go through it because it had a lot of action.

Um, nope.

I skimmed through the dialogue for the last 7 chapters. which is 70% of the book. I just could not read it any longer.

All that being said, I think on its own, without the influence of other books, it's a great book, and I can see why people like this, but I just can't. I can't

Character Thoughts:

Mare was too naive and stupid, even though I thought I loved her at the beginning.

Cal was just an asshole.

Maven was just... there.

Evangeline was your basic Regina George.

Love Triangle was a thing, obviously. Ugh.

Overall, I just had a very hard time getting through this book an it felt like a mix of everything bad in every good story so I don't like.
I wouldn't have hated it if it wasn't for the hype that came after I read it. I just can't.

OHMYGOD
OH. MY. GOD.

HOW COULD SUCH BEAUTY EXIST I AM DYING. I LOVE THAT COVER SO MUCH.

DO YOU SEE THOSE TOWERS? DO YOU? I DO.

So basically today was a normal Friday the 13th, putting Fifty Shades Of Grey aside. BUT THEN, I OPEN INSTAGRAM, AND GLORY MEETS MY EYES.

If you didn't know this already, I'm kind of obsessed with the Grisha Trilogy.

Just a teeny tiny bit. Ruin And Rising was my favorite book of 2014. The whole series has a very special place in my heart. So obviously, I'm fucking excited about this.
this gif is me all day, everyday

Batshit crazy characters? count me fucking in.

"The main character is a boy named Kaz Brekker—con artist, killer, gangleader, thief. He’s horrible." - Leigh Bardugo
I LOVE HIM ALREADY.

So other than the glorious cover, we've been getting some sneak peaks ever since the book was announced, so here's couple of things for you to get excited.

This is the Six Of Crows Dice. I've never seen anything more beautiful in my life.

Character reveals from Leigh Bardugo's Instagram : @lbardugo :

SO COOL. So I decided to put them all together because I was so freaking hype when they all came out I was out of freaking control :

BUT THEN:

DO YOU FUCKING SEE THAT? Look at me being all chill and shit.

Still continuing on with my fangirling, I went to the series' website and took the "Which Grisha are you?" quiz, which you can take here.

And my result was:

Literally, dead.

That's obviously not a good thing but I fucking love The Darkling so much I'm so freaking happy about this. I didn't even know this'll be one of the options.

If you didn't know, Leigh Bardugo is a multi-talented person. She wrote and sang a song based on The Grisha trilogy, which I am absolutely obsessed with. Check it out:

Isn't it awesome??

Last thing: You can read an excerpt from Six Of Crows here, if you are into that type of stuff. I don't think I'll read it. I'm scared I'll get too attached, basically, and go all like:

Anyways, I think that's all. If we start talking about the fancasting I won't sleep tonight. Thank you for reading all the way to here, wow you're committed.

Also, I just found a folder on my laptop with my favorite Grisha fanart, if you want to see them please, do tell.

I love you, *whispers the darkling's name*.

White Hot Kiss | Book Review

Title: White Hot Kiss
Series: (The Dark Elements #1)
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Genre: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance
Publication Date: February 25th 2014
Format: ebook

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world..

I'm actually still reading this right now and I'm already planning a review. I have 3 chapters left and a bomb just freaking dropped on me, I can't even..

And now, I just finished it. Holy moly.

White Hot Kiss was definitely a pleasant surprise. Everyone kept saying it was a Paranormal Romance but I felt it was so much more than that. Urban Fantasy is more like it.

This book follows our main character Layla, who is Half-Demon, Half-Warden(Gargoyle). And if that's not freaking cool already I don't know what is.
The story involved so many cool and unique aspects that remain untouched most of the time, like Hell and Satan and angels and God.

I love that world, and all the mythical creatures. I think Jennifer L. Armentrout did very well with the story line and plot.
I expected to just love the romance without the paranormal parts but damn! Everything was awesome!

White Hot Kiss involves a Love-Triangle. One of the best out there, I loved it. It was the childhood friend vs. new bad boy type of love triangle, see, I usually automatically pick the bad boy but with this one, I wasn't so sure.

Our first male character, is Roth. The moody, sassy and hottie bad boy. Roth is a full-fledged Demon, and seriously I fell in love with him the moment he appeared in the book. Literally, the first line he says in the book is "And you should kiss my ass. How about that?" I just love the guy I can't help it.
Though, I'd like to point out that Roth isn't the asshole type of badboy he was actually really nice. Aside from the constant sexual comments he made.

The other character is, Zayne. Zayne is the protective, super kind and gentle kind of guy. He's been taking care of Layla ever since she was little. And Layla - being the hormonal teenager she was- obviously had a wittle crush on Zayne. The thing about Zayne though, is that he wasn't the kind of friend who would be like "Oh I can't see you as a woman." and "You're like my little sister." and then when someone suddenly tries to even look at her he transforms 'Boyfriend Mode' NO. He was the kind of guy who was honest to his feelings but for an actual legitimate reason, he couldn't be with her.

As for teams, even though it was very hard to decide, I do still love my bad boy.
Team Roth!

Overall, I highly enjoyed the world and the characters. I loved the romance and the love triangle and I can't wait for more. The reason I gave this a 4/5 Star rating is because even though the book was relatively long, nothing really happened. But other than that, something that bothered me is that sometimes the author would spare us explanations that we obviously needed to comprehen the scenes. I seriously read this scene, thinking the person in it was Zayne and after 5 pages she tells me it's actually not.

So, yeah. Loved this and can't wait to read Stone Cold touch.

The Girl Of Fire And Thorns | Book Review

Title: The Girl Of Fire And Thorns
Series: (Fire And Thorns #1)
Author: Rae Carson
Genre: Young Adult, High Fantasy
Publication Date: September 20th 2011
Format: ebook

Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.

Elisa is the chosen one.

But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can't see how she ever will.

Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.

And he's not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people's savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.

Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn't die young.

Most of the chosen do.

I first saw this book in its hideous UK cover so I appreciate this cover so much more than I already would.

Why is it called The Girl Of Fire And Thorns is beyond me.

I'm not sure how to review this, to be completely honest. I know how I rated it but I feel like so much happened in this one book that I don't know what I liked so much.

This book started out with our main character Elisa being married off to a King named Alejandro De Viga on her 16th Birthday which actually is what everybody told me as a synopsis to the story, which is, in fact, wrong.
The story does start there but the plot develops into something so much more.

The main character was quite different from your usual MC. Both physically and mentally. Elisa is dark skinned and overweight. I guess I have read a book with a plus-sized person before but Elisa was, as I said, overweight.

The thing about Elisa though, is that she was completely oblivious to her cleverness and strategic thinking. It was so interesting to see her develop confidence and start realizing how important her status is.

The romance was so freaking good. I love when authors do that kind of thing, which I will not say what it is.

Though, I felt kind of spoiled. Something happened and it wasn't as surprising to me because of how carefree people were talking about the books, when they obviously have read more than the first book.

The story dealt with religion so nicely. Our main character is God-Chosen. Which was very refreshing because the main character wasn't alone she had God. Whenever something bad happened she remembered God and prayed, which is a relationship I'd like to have.

The book was refreshing and very fast-paced. I absolutely love the characters and loved the unexpected romance.

Overall, really enjoyable fast read that I highly recommend. I knocked off half a star because visualizing the characters was very difficult. Honestly, I still don't know how to imagine them.

Love Triangle? Mysterious Box? | Insurgent Movie Discussion

The anticipation is real. Insurgent is coming out in March 20 and if I don't talk about it with someone I'll probably explode so that's what I am doing today...

So before you go on reading all the points I want to talk about know that I'll spoil some parts of the book. So most likely you need to read Insurgent before you can actually read this.

Also, I might be really feisty here, sorry.

Let's hustle.

1) Sticking to the book:

The controversy over the movie is mostly because of this point. Everyone thinks that the movie is very different than the book, therefore, the movie won't be as good. I have two debates for this:
1- For me, the book being different from the book is a good thing. I wouldn't want to waste my money to see a movie I already memorized by heart in theaters, to be completely honest. And if you change nothing in the book you're honestly just being lazy. An Adaptation is not a the book coming to life rather than a movie based off of a book.
If they do this right, this could be great.
2- The trailer is very deceiving. I noticed that they'er showing us all the things that are different from the book but I don't think they're straying from the book plot as much as they make it out to be.

2) The damn box:

This box became more famous than the movie itself. I think it's freaking cool. I think it's just a more interesting take on the disc(?) that held the video of ya know, Tris' ancestor or whatever.
So I hope that we're over that shit, thank you.

3) Tris' fucking hair:

If I hear just one more thing about her hair I'm gonna cut a bitch. She cuts it in the damn book too and I don't care how you imagined it, this's what you get.
And honestly, I like this hair on Shailene much more. The long hair didn't seem right on her. It just seemed to drown her, it would've been better if it was layered but now it's gone so it's cool.

4) Naomi Watts as Evelyn

Okay, so at first when I saw the casting picture of Naomi I thought she was perfect. A little bit roughing up and she'd be the perfect Evelyn.

But, Let's be honest . This:

This is just stupid. She looks younger than fucking Tris. what the hell.
And she gets the blue eyes? Not Four or Marcus but her?
Wow, that's some confusing shit right there.

5) Ending Changes:

So if you've read Allegiant, you know what happens in the end. And if you haven't read it, you know something happens. (no spoilers)

Do I think they'll change the ending?
Right now, almost 80% sure they will. Just everything they'er doing and mostly because of the new character (we'll get to him).

Am I sad they'll change it?
I'm really undecided on this. I won't be sad if they don't change it, but if they do change it which is most likely, I won't be upset either.

6) New character and love triangle rumors:

It's not going to be a love triangle, just clarifying. I mean we'll get to the jealousy and relationship drama shit in Allegiant.

So, when I saw this, just like everybody else I was like "who the fuck is Edgar?"

Now, the only information on this 'Edgar' is that he's a really bad guy with a little charm. So maybe he tries to get close to Tris or something (?)
Or like they just added a villain just because (?)
Who knows? I don't really think he'll be important in this movie particularly. But, I guess we'll see.

7) Tris losing her damn shirt:

Ya'll are the most hilarious people in the world. Who fucking cares?? So she loses her shirt, that does not mean they sleep together. God, get over yourselves.
Although it'll be funny if it was like a simulation or a dream, that'd be the best thing they've done.

I guess that'll cover it for now. I leave you with a couple of things that I loved:
